WesTrac is helping develop the next generation of skilled workers through its established apprenticeship program and growing school-based traineeship initiative
The programs provide young people with practical workplace experience, structured training and opportunities to build the skills and confidence needed to transition from school into apprenticeships and long-term careers.
WesTrac Apprentice Manager Olivia Forknall said supporting apprentices throughout their training journey is an important part of developing a skilled and sustainable workforce.
The organisation has a strong history of retaining apprentices beyond their training, with more than 300 former apprentices continuing their careers with WesTrac after completing their qualifications. Some have remained with the organisation for close to 40 years, while around 97% of apprentices are retained following completion of their apprenticeship.
WesTrac is also focused on creating a more diverse workforce and ensuring apprentices have access to support throughout their training.
Apprenticeship Support Australia’s mentoring program works alongside WesTrac’s internal support systems, providing apprentices with additional guidance when they experience workplace or personal challenges.
Through mentoring, apprentices can access independent support to help them build confidence, navigate challenges and remain engaged with their training and career goals.
The combination of practical training, workplace experience and ongoing support is helping WesTrac create pathways for young people while building the skilled workforce it needs for the future.
