Western Power charged up with 51 new apprentices

Apprenticeship Support Australia (ASA) congratulates Western Power of its achievement in appointing 51 new apprentices to its business.

Western Power is a valued client of ASA and this significant investment will help foster the energy sector’s growth and development of aspiring talent.

Carly Waterfield, State Manager of ASA WA said:

Apprenticeship Support Australia are proud to support both Western Power and their Apprentices through this journey, and commend Western Power on continuing to provide new opportunities in an advancing industry.

Western Power’s apprenticeship program is run by nationally accredited trainers who are experts in their field with both on and off the job training at Western Power’s registered training organisation, Power Training Services, and TAFEWA.

The 2023 intake includes 34 lineworkers, 13 electricians, three heavy diesel mechanics, and one automotive electrician in a program.

Energy Minister Bill Johnston MLA said:

I am thrilled to welcome these new apprentices to Western Power – they are the future of our State’s thriving energy sector, and it’s pleasing to provide them with the opportunity to gain qualifications, receive hands-on training and practical industry experience.

The intake meets the McGowan Government’s election commitment to hire at least 50 apprentices each year, contrasting with the former Liberal/National government, which stopped Western Power from hiring apprentices.

Western Power has a long-standing commitment to investing in and supporting employment for Western Australians and providing numerous opportunities for people from all walks of life to gain qualifications, experience and advance their careers in the WA energy sector.

It’s an exciting time to work for Western Power, as the business continues to leverage new technologies to provide a cleaner, brighter energy supply for the community.
