Meet Kate Cooke (left), our industry training consultant and mentor for Kununurra. Kate is based out on the road, meeting employers and apprentices from all industries to provide support regarding training contracts, incentive eligibility, training and any other queries. Kate gave us an insight into her work around the region.
What excites you about your work?
I really enjoy my work, knowing that part of what we do can shape and positively change someone’s future.
What are the biggest challenges of your work and how do you overcome them?
Some of my biggest challenges include our remoteness, trying to access communications services and reach areas where our employers and apprentices/trainees are located. I overcome these by focusing on regular communication with our employers and apprentices and the ability to be flexible with my schedule to connect with people and get hold of information from them.
Three things you’d recommend us to do when visiting Kununurra?
- Sunset drinks/dinner at the Pumphouse Restaurant
- Cruise on the Ord River and Lake Argyle
- Experience as much as possible – there is soooo much to do in the region!
