When Jakob finished high school, he was unsure of what he wanted to do and was referred to a jobactive provider, APM Employment Solutions.
Jakob received assistance with resumes and career planning, and completed a targeted pre-employment program. APM brokered an interview for Jakob with Surge Fitness. After the interview Jakob was offered a trial with them.
Through the Youth Jobs PaTH program, employers can trial a young person in an internship for between 4 and 12 weeks to see how they fit into the team and if they are suitable for ongoing employment. Interns are unpaid by the business and receive a fortnightly incentive paid by the Government.
Jakob was successful in his internship and in October, secured full-time paid employment with the business. Already, Jakob has received a promotion which has seen him off Centrelink income support payments and he continues to move forward in this new career as he undertakes a certificate III and IV in Fitness, to become a Personal Trainer and Group Fitness Instructor.
Jakob’s message to employers are give people a chance to prove themselves and offer an internship.
