With the recent announcement of a new wage subsidy to commence apprentices and trainees, in addition to the expanded wage subsidy available for small and medium businesses (less than 200 employees) on offer to retain their apprentices and trainees, it’s really important for employers to be across what is available to them.
Assistance to retain existing apprentices and trainees: the Supporting Apprentices and Trainees Wage Subsidy reimburses 50% of apprentices/trainees wages, up to $7,000 per quarter for apprentices employed on or before 1 July 2020. This is now available up until 31 March 2021.
Assistance to commence apprentices or trainees: The Boosting Apprenticeship Commencement Wage Subsidy reimburses 50% of apprentices/trainees wages, up to $7,000 per quarter for apprentices employed on or after 5 October 2020. This is now available up until 30 September 2021.
