Shape WA’s workforce by joining the Industry Training Council Board

Western Australia’s Industry Training Councils are looking for engaged employers to step up and play a pivotal role in shaping the future of skills and training across key sectors.

WA’s Industry Training Councils are independent, industry-led advisory bodies funded by the State Government to ensure the training system meets the real needs of businesses and industries. They provide advice to the State Training Board and the Department of Training and Workforce Development on workforce trends, skills priorities, and training pathways, helping to align apprenticeships, traineeships, and vocational education with the demands of key sectors across Western Australia.

Currently, there are vacancies on the Logistics Skills Council and the Financial, Administrative and Professional Services Industry Training Council Boards. Both are seeking employers with a strong understanding of apprenticeships and traineeships, and a passion for ensuring that training reflects real industry needs.

Why get involved?

Serving on a Training Council Board is an opportunity to:

– Influence workforce development: Share insights on the skills that the industry needs today and in the future.

– Advise the government: Contribute to recommendations that inform WA’s training priorities and policy decisions.

– Strengthen your sector:  Ensure that training pathways are relevant, effective, and help businesses access the skilled workforce they need.

Board members commit to up to five meetings per year. It’s a voluntary role, but one that offers the chance to directly shape WA’s workforce development agenda while building strong connections across industry and government.

The Logistics Training Council is particularly seeking representation from trucking and road freight, though employers from across the transport and logistics sector are welcome. Similarly, the Financial and Professional Services Industry Training Council is looking for members from a broad range of sectors, including those with a regional perspective, from Aboriginal Corporations, IT or Cyber Security, or from Police Services.

Take the next step

If you or someone from your organisation is passionate about workforce development and training, we encourage you to register your interest. This is your chance to ensure that WA’s training system continues to deliver for business and industry.
